this router is the best one that I have ever owned. I have had 2 other brands both of which gave my computers trouble connecting or would suddenly drop the DSL. I never have trouble connecting with the 2wire also the range on the wireless is a lot further than the other brands.
But, if all you need is a wireless modem, and have no plans to use this as a router, then you should be fine. Called the seller's tech support, and they said it was out of warranty, and that the antennas had probably gone bad.
But recently, I began to lose my wifi signal to my wireless devices (Macbook, iPhone, Roku Netflix Player). I'll be happily surfing the net from my Macbook, and then, it'll just drop out.
I purchased one of these routers from Amazon back in August, and it worked really well. After doing some research (google: 2wire 2700 signal drop), I've found that this is a problem, especially on Mac computers--though my buddy's xp laptop also loses connection quite often.
And after I try to find the signal to connect again, and I cannot do so until I reset some of the settings on the router. I cannot keep a connection for more than 7-10 minutes, then the modem resets fro 5-10 minutes, and the signal appears again.
VERY FRUSTRATING. I can still use the 2wire when connected via ethernet, just a hassle.
They offered me 3.0 M speed for only $5 a month more and it's coming in at 2.4 M over the same 2-wire modem without doing anything on my end except enjoy it. Ma Bell finally got around to upgrading the switch boxes out here- I was at the 3 mile limit for DSL. Signed up for the 1.5 M speed, only got0.94 on a good day. Now when MS, Norton, etc put out updates, I can update my computers much faster. Note: DSL is in two frequency bands; only the download speed increases, the outgoing (upload) speed is still a sluggish 0.4 M
Extremely easy setup. I was up and running in minutes. I have had no problems with it what so ever. Wired or wireless it works great.
This is a very good product. It is easy to use and set up and I have had very little trouble with it.Once in a great while something would happen and it would have to reset itself and you would have to wait a few minutes to get online and use the network, but other than that it was great. Unfortunately, I just lost one because I had left my window open and it rained and got the modem wet and shorted it out. I just bought another one, because I like it. I had it on internet and used it to network all my home computers together both hard wired and wirelessly. I have some computers hard wired to the network and some that are connected wirelessly and they all work quite well with this router and modem.I would heartily recommend this device to anyone who wants to simultaneously set up a home network and a DSL internet connection.
